10 Useful iPad Tips & Tricks

May 24, 2012iOSadmin

There is so much that you can do with your iPad, it is understandable that you may not know how to do everything. That is where this article comes in. Below you will find 10 tips and tricks that will enhance your iPad experience!

Soft Reset

To perform a soft reset, useful in cases where your iPad freezes, hold the power and home button for a few seconds. The iPad will restart and be ready to go. To force quit an application that has frozen, just hold the home button by itself.

Create folders

Whether you just like to be organized or you have so many apps that you have difficulty finding an app when you want it, creating folders is a great idea. To create a folder, tap and hold on an app until all the apps start to jiggle. Continue holding on the app and drag it over another icon and release. Your iPad will create a folder containing both apps and will automatically add a title based on the apps it contains or you can rename the folder.

Access all running apps

By double-clicking on the Home button you are able to see a list of all apps that are running on your iPad along a bar at the bottom of the screen. To switch to a running app, just tap on the app in this bar. Also, it is a good idea to go through and close your apps occasionally to help conserve battery life. To close an app, bring up the same bar but instead of tapping on an app, hold down on the app. Once the apps jiggle, you will click on the red circle to close the app.

Orientation Lock or Mute

You know that switch on the side of your iPad above the volume buttons? By default it is set to mute or un-mute your volume. However, you can change the switch from mute to orientation lock. With orientation lock on, the screen will not rotate when turned. To choose whether you want the Side Switch to Lock Rotation or Mute, go to Settings > General and click on your preferred choice.

Easy Mute

If you do use Orientation Lock instead of Mute, there is still a way to quickly mute your iPad. Hold down the volume down button for about two seconds to mute your iPad.

Copy and Paste

Do you want to be able to copy text from one app to another? You can! Simply tap and hold down on the text you wish to copy and then choose Select and you will be able to select the exact portion of text you would like to copy. With the text selected, tap Copy, go to a different app, tap and hold down again, then tap Paste. To select an entire paragraph, tap the text four times.

Add a full stop

Did you know that while typing in apps such as Notes, Mail, or Pages, by double tapping the space bar at the end of a sentence, it will automatically add a period and space for you!

Quick Safari scroll

If you get to the bottom of a web site or other apps and want to get back to the top of the window, there is a much faster way than scrolling by hand. Simply tap on the top of the title window and it will bring you back to the top of the page!

Use Multitasking Gestures

Using either four or five fingers, you can quickly switch between apps, bring up the multitasking bar, close an app, and go back to the Home screen. To turn Multitasking Gestures on, go to Settings > General.

Split Keyboard

Would you like to only type with your thumbs? It is possible to split the keyboard for easy thumb typing. When the keyboard is up, touch both sides of it with your thumbs and swipe towards the outside edge of the iPad with each thumb. The keyboard will stay this way as long as you want it too. To change it back, simply touch both sides of the keyboard with your thumbs and swipe towards the middle of the iPad with each thumb.
